Editor’s Notes: Bucket hats and flame prints abounded at R13’s SS20 NYFW runway show. Chris Leba returned to his familiar and beloved aesthetic of the New York skate park, and the plaid-clad youth that represents his concept of the “other” America.
Leba took inspiration from the mood and attitude of skater kids he saw on his way to the R13 office. Velvet Underground tees act as a kind of shorthand for an adolescent irreverence that also pays homage to a bygone era of New York and American fashion.
The generous application of flame prints and liberal use of leopard print framed by classic sportswear silhouettes and luxurious fabrics strike the intended balance between high and low culture.
