The dark side of love and sexuality is an oft-explored subject in music, particularly as the worlds of R&B and electronic music continue to hybridize in ever-more exploratory forms. No better example of this quality can be found than in Ramsey, a rising artist who has just dropped a nebulous new visual for single "Love Surrounds You." Watch its world premiere above.

At a mere 21 years of age, Ramsey has created what most artists strive to achieve in a lifetime: an immediate sense of character. Her music straddles the line between the erotic and the intimidating with each passing second, simultaneously gripping and repelling you. "Love Surrounds You" is but a taste of what we can expect from her upcoming self-titled EP, which is set to drop on February, 24.

We spoke to Ramsey ahead of the video premiere to learn a little more about its influences and where she's headed next.

On artistry

As an artist, I like playing with sounds and visuals that make you feel something. Anything. Even if it's ambivalence. We're so conditioned to move through the day on auto-pilot and digest the manufactured shit we're spoon-fed that we don't realize how numb we are to all of it, and fuck that. I really think people want art to make them not know how to feel -- to make them uncomfortable. And that's what's missing in music now in my opinion. Artists being true artists.

On the video

The video director James Mountford and I made for "Love Surrounds You" marries the literal and figurative nakedness that accompanies intimacy. We wanted the viewer to experience almost tangible, gently invasive up-closeness, allowing the video to match the raw emotionality of the song.

On style

I love fashion and playing with mixing / matching clothes. In my everyday life, I don't have one style that I wear more than any other, it's usually just dictated by my mood. I think people expect me to dress super dark, and sometimes I do, but then there are days I feel like wearing glitter and sunshine. So, that's what I do. But for my shows, I like to wear anything from Majesty Black. They make amazing leather accessories and I'm obsessed.

On being on stage

There's nothing like the feeling of being on stage and seeing people in the crowd singing your songs. It's the best high in the world.
