The New Year brought with it the legalization of recreational marijuana in California, where a small number of business were provided a license to sell recreational pot on Monday.

More businesses are expected to join in the coming days and weeks, which will see the legal pot market grow to an expected $7 billion annually by 2020.

To sell weed commercially, businesses need local approval and a state license. Existing medical marijuana dispensaries have been given first priority for recreational sales.

California joins Alaska, Nevada, Colorado, Washington, and Oregon as the sixth state to introduce the sale of recreational marijuana. Massachusetts and Maine are also expected to begin sales this year.
