Digital cinematography and photography camera and accessory manufacturer RED has this week announced its new Hydrogen One smartphone. According to the company, the device boasts a 5.7-inch holographic display that uses nanotechnology to “seamlessly [switch] between traditional 2D content, holographic multi-view content, 3D content, and interactive games.”

RED founder Jim Jannard says “there is no good way to describe it until you see it,” going on to add, “our display is technology you haven’t seen before. It is not lenticular, which is inferior tech in every way, has been tried many times before and failed for good reason. (see Amazon 3D Fire, LG Optimus, etc).”

The Hydrogen One is scheduled to arrive early next year and is now available for pre-order starting at $1,195 USD for the aluminum version, then noting a price tag of $1,595 USD for the titanium iteration.
