Artist Richard Prince is displaying canvases that feature other people's Instagram pictures in his "New Portraits" exhibition at Gagosian Gallery in New York. The subjects were not shot by Prince himself, but he rather uses screenshots of other people's Instagram photos and that seems to have raised quite a few question in the past weeks. Especially because Prince is selling the canvases for almost $100,000 a piece. Prince used the photos, added his own commentary below them, and printed them on large canvases for the exhibition. It also seems like the artist did not ask for permission to use the images from the people who shot them. The big question now is whether or not Richard Prince is actually breaking the law or if he is creating something new and valuable here. What do you think?
