The Rolex Daytona in steel has become an icon like no other watch over the last 50+ years. Especially in recent years, with the vintage watch market really having taken off, there is hardly any other brand and watch model that are as sought-after as the Rolex Daytona. This week, for the first time in many years, Rolex has announced a new steel version of the Daytona, to be presented for the first time at Basel World 2016.

Rolex has finally answered the wish of many fans around the globe and presents a new steel Daytona with a black Cerachrom bezel. The look of the watch goes full circle, as a black bezel has already been featured on the Daytona in 1965, including the popular reference 6240 and the 6263 as well. The advantage of a Cerachrom bezel is that it is corrosion resistant, almost scratch-proof, and the color is impervious to UV rays. That means, that unlike vintage Rolexes, this one will actually never have a bezel with a patina.

Priced at $12,000, the new Rolex Daytona does not have an official release date yet. We can already tell you though, that you will probably have to put yourself down on waiting lists around the globe to get your hands on this one.
