Following KITH founder Ronnie Fieg’s first teaser of a suspected new collaborative ASICS GEL-Lyte 3.1, the designer has given us a better look at the silhouette via his Instagram (below). The second shot of the sneaker, which comes in a gallery of behind-the-scenes imagery from KITH’s FW19 collection, confirms that the sneaker is a GEL-Lyte 3.1 thanks to a clean shot of the updated sole unit.
When Fieg first teased the sneaker, some of his followers believed the shoe to be a classic GEL-Lyte 3 as the image was a top-down view of the upper. Upon closer inspection, though, it became obvious that the sole unit was that of the GEL Nimbus, making it a GEL-Lyte 3.1.
The sneaker in question features a light purple suede upper with hairy suede detailing. The insoles feature oversized ASICS and “FIEG” branding. The midsole is predominantly white, with light purple GEL detailing at the heel and forefoot. The outsole looks to be either darker purple or black.
Fieg rose to prominence in the sneaker world off the back of several highly-popular GEL-Lyte 3 collaborations in the late ’00s and early 2010’s. In 2016 the designer teamed up with ASICS to launch the hybrid GEL-Lyte 3.1. The latest teaser could also just be a sample from 2016, though, considering Fieg’s penchant for following up teasers with more concrete release information, there could be more to follow soon. Stay tuned for any updates.
On this week’s episode of The Dropcast we are joined Roger Gastman and David “CHINO” Villorente, where we discuss Gastman’s “Beyond the Streets” exhibit currently on display in Brooklyn, and how guys like Futura and KAWS have managed to make it in the art world on their own terms.
