West Coast surfers RVCA have hooked up with the folks at the long-standing, legendary surfing apparel label Birdwell Beach Britches for a summer capsule collection.
Entirely made in the U.S., the capsule comprises key surf essentials like boardshorts, jackets, tees, surf totes as well as the obligatory beach towel. Oh, and a hat.
Both ingrained in the SoCal surf scene, according to RVCA’s founder, Pat Tenore, the collaboration was a no-brainer partly as the two brands are neighbors just down Newport Beach's 55 Freeway. According to Tenore, the idea was ingrained in him 15 years ago following a visit to Birdwell’s factory in Santa Ana.
"Everything about Birdwell has always been appealing to me, from the origin of the company in Carrie Birdwell Mann’s living room, to the timeless heritage of Birdwell’s original 2-ply beach britches," explained Tenore. "[Those 2-ply beach britches], in my opinion, are on the same level of what 501’s are to jeans and America."
The collection marries RVCA’s well-found rep for creating artistic product with Birdwell’s own storied history in the scene (they’ve been making surf gear since 1961).
The capsule drops today at RVCA.com. Peep the offerings and check out Alex Knost, Ford Archibold and Ellis Ericson testing out the capsule’s gear in the surf.
