Diego Luna will reportedly play the lead role of Tony Montana in the upcoming remake of Scarface.
The news comes after months of speculation (not least from us), following the announcement of the remake's existence early last year. The iconic 1983 film – which itself was a remake of the original 1932 film loosely based on Al Capone – saw Al Pacino play Tony Montana, a Cuban drug lord in 1980s Miami.
Variety reports that, though the film is still only at the scripting stage, Mexican actor Lunar — who played Cassian Andor in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — has agreed to pick up where Al Pacino left off. The film was set to be directed by Antoine Fuqua (The Magnificent Seven) until he had to pull out due to a clash in schedules.
The film has yet to receive an official release date. Stay tuned for more information.
In other news, Ben Affleck is not directing the next Batman movie.
