Shia LaBeouf has apologized for his “destructive” behavior after videos surfaced of him verbally abusing police officers who arrested him in Savannah, Georgia, earlier this month.

Publishing a statement on Twitter, LaBeouf wrote that he was “deeply ashamed” and had hit a “new low” with the outburst. “I am certain that my actions warrant a very sincere apology to the arresting officers,” he wrote.

LaBeouf also addressed his ongoing substance abuse, adding: “I have been struggling with addiction publicly for far too long, and I am actively taking steps toward securing my sobriety.”

The first video (see below) shows LaBeouf being arrested, while another shows the actor being questioned and can be heard telling one of the officers he’d go to hell “because he’s a black man.”
