Snapchat has announced the introduction of a new desktop app called Lens Studio for Mac and Windows. The app allows anyone from the Snapchat community to create lenses to be used inside the mobile app.

Once you’ve completed your lens you’ll be given a special Snapcode that you can share, meaning anyone can scan it to unlock your lens.

This is the latest move by Snapchat in a bid to innovate its service and set itself apart from notorious copy-cat Instagram. It bears similarities to the decision in 2014 to let users create their own Geofilters, which was a massive success.

Whether Lens Studio will work remains to be seen, however, it’s clear Snapchat isn’t going down without a fight.

In related news, a new Instagram feature may drastically alter your feed (again).
