Outdoor lifestyle imprint Snow Peak has stepped up its outerwear game this season with a little help from some innovative materials. Its down-filled jackets get their edge from Aramid fabrics, creating a lightweight but tough, and best of all flame-retardant winter grail.
Founded in Japan and given its namesake from the famous Japanese mountain, Tanigawa, Snow Peak creates innovative mountaineering equipment and apparel. The jackets — which at the same time as being fire-resistant, are also water repellent due to their Toray Dermizax coating — joins the likes of Stone Isalnd’s thermo-reactive Ice Jacket as one of this winter’s dopest releases in terms of its technical specifications.
Born out of Snow Peak’s standard for enjoying fires, Aramid fibres are a class of heat-resistant synthetic fibres often used in aerospace and military applications for ballistic-rated body armor.
