Arizona-based design firm Chen + Suchart Studio has completed the Staab Residence in Scottsdale, Arizona. It’s a distinctive structure amidst the bleak desert landscape. On the outside, it’s an inconspicuous-looking home, as the sand-blasted CMU block masonry walls that define the exterior of the ground level are in place to provide privacy.
However, it’s a different story inside and on the upper volume, as cantilevering glass facades allow the home’s residents to enjoy views of the neighboring McDowell Mountains. The home uses a variety of materials, including weathered steel, brickwork and glass, with each correlating to a different experience.
