British grime artist Stormzy recently had the opportunity to sit down with MR PORTER to discuss his recent successes. While he's already accrued a substantial following, he, like others, believe that it's only a matter of time before he achieves "Beatles status." For all his accomplishments thus far - an on-stage appearance at the Brit Awards with Kanye West and two MOBOs for Best Male Act and Best Grime Act - he doesn't seem jaded by his fame.
Instead, he admits that it confounds him when brands ask to work with him, saying: "Sometimes I think, 'What do they want with me?'" Yet, all this publicity hasn't tainted Stormzy's beliefs, only helping him to attain more recognition.
In regards to his casual style, “I’m proper simple,” he says. “I just wear whatever. When I was invited on Jools Holland, and that’s a prestigious TV show, I was thinking, ‘What do I wear?’ But I thought there’s no point thinking about it. If I have to think about it, then I’m not being myself. So I wore what I like, which is a tracksuit.”
