Studio Ghibli

Last summer we found out that Japanese animation film studio, Studio Ghibli, would be opening up a theme park. Originally slated for 2020, now the plan is to launch the space in 2022. Here, we in turn get our first look at what to expect from the theme park, courtesy of NHK and Aichi Prefecture.

The park will be located on a 200-hectare plot of land near Nagoya, Japan. The World’s Fair was held at this space back in 2005. Upon approaching the area, you'll notice that the main gate is reminiscent of 19th century structures from Howl’s Moving Castle, as there will also be a recreation of Whisper of the Heart’s antique shop.

In addition, the Big Ghibli Warehouse will call home to Ghibli-themed play areas, exhibition spaces, and small cinemas. You will also be able to enjoy Princess Mononoke Village and Witch Valley, featuring attractions revolving around Howl’s Moving Castle and Kiki’s Delivery Service.

Lastly, the Totoro-themed Dondoko Forest points to the “dondoko dance” that Mei and Satsuki take part in with Totoro.
