Cued Up is Highsnobiety’s celebration of upcoming talent. Within these stripped down performances, we spotlight a rising artist who is bringing something new to the world of music and capturing our hearts, minds, and ears. This week, we’re featuring Super Natural Psycho, a musically-inclined group of friends whose music has caught the ears of one of our favorite clothing brands.

Super Natural Psycho is a New York-based band made up of musicians Reggie McCafferty, Mikey Merante, Darren Nanos, Vrndavana Powell, Mike Rizk, and Bryan Valdivia. They became friends through the hardcore/punk scene, and also bring previous experience from bands like Creem, Xibalba, and Attitude.

Their sound pulls from a variety of influences, channeling trippy ’70s grooves with a slight ’90s edge, but still managing to create a sound that feels more “now” than anything else. There’s also an unlikely tie to the world of street fashion. Bryan Valdivia works at Concepts NYC, and Vrndavana Powell works at Noah’s flagship store.

One day Powell played SNP’s music in the shop at a time when brand founder Brendon Babenzien was hanging out. He was an instant fan of their vibe, and even put up a post on Noah’s blog shouting out the band and their debut LP, Rendezvous With The Sun, which releases today on Super Natural Pscyho’s site.

We linked up with the band to get to know more about their story. Check them out in the video above as they perform their songs “Alice Comes Around” and “Black Cherry” on the latest episode of Cue’d Up.

Now check out Swedish pop star Tove Styrke on the previous episode of Cued Up.
