As of right now, self-care is one of the most important practices to implement into your lifestyle. Whether it’s reciting a few mantras or treating yourself to some much needed pampering. Los Angeles singer-songwriter (and Berklee College of Music alum) Syd B is on a mission to empower women through her music and so far she’s succeeding with flying colors. On her latest single “Free,” Syd powerfully declares that she can’t be changed by anyone. Today, we’re premiering the Marielle Boland and Brigitte Crisp-directed music video for the mellow tune. Syd further elaborated on the meaning behind the NARX-produced song in an email to Highsnobiety.

“While I spent some time in the UK earlier this year, I had several self-discoveries and I think ‘free’ captures the essence of that,” she said. “I made a choice to leave something that wasn’t serving me anymore while in London and went to stay up north. I’ve always been one to put others before myself, but sometimes too much of that can be harmful. I found a balance. I found who I was and realized how powerful I can be on my own and truly myself, even in a place that’s not my home.”

Watch the entire visual unfold in the video below.
