This weekend we partnered with Barneys on thedrop@barneys, a two-day shopping event that saw the release of 30 exclusive capsule collections from labels like OFF-WHITE, 424, Greg Lauren, Heron Preston, and FEAR OF GOD.
Taking things to the next level, designers made appearances during timed drops throughout Saturday, which saw the release of exclusive product and offered shoppers a chance to meet some of their favorite people in fashion and culture. Meanwhile, activations throughout the store kept people busy between drops. Palm Angels offered a screenprinting station on the fourth floor, while customers could customize Highsnobiety x Barneys New York shopping bags with stickers from the featured designers.
In Highsnobiety’s specially designed eighth floor studio, Highsnobiety managing director Jeff Carvalho and Jackie Kim of the Barneys Fashion Office joined figures from across the industry and culture to talk shop, with Heron Preston, Samuel Ross of A-COLD-WALL*, and Fear Of God’s Jerry Lorenzo each offering their view on ‘streetwear’ as a term and industry.
Meanwhile, Tracey Mills discussed his label Visitor On Earth and working with Kanye, Guillermo Andrade of 424 compared LA and NY fashion scenes, and Marcelo Burlon offered a European perspective with his journey from Milan’s club scene to the fashion stores of New York.
Barneys creative director Matt Mazzuca also sat down with FEAR OF GOD founder Jerry Lorenzo for a fireside chat at the FEAR OF GOD living room-inspired installation on the seventh floor. Sunday saw two panels with industry insiders. The first panel tackled the topic of women in streetwear, featuring Emily Oberg and Tracey Mills, moderated by Carvalho. The closing focused on the spirit of DIY with panelists included Greg Lauren, Ross, Andrade, and Drew Caldwell, the buyer of developing designers at Barneys New York.
The event brought together shoppers, designers, and kids who just wanted to see what was going down.
