June 30: An altercation takes place in Stockholm

Local Swedish media outlets report that a “world-renowned star” was involved in an altercation and that police were called. The incident happens before Rocky’s appearance at SMASH festival in Stockholm.

July 1: Footage from the altercation begins to circulate

Footage initially surfaces on Reddit and is later posted by TMZ. The clip shows four men, one of whom appears to be A$AP Rocky, attacking an unidentified person.

July 2: A$AP Rocky shares his own footage, performs at SMASH, and is arrested

In a bid to take control of the narrative, the rapper posts a video on Instagram depicting events leading up to the altercation, suggesting the person seen being attacked in the video had been harassing Rocky’s group and others. The accompanying caption read, “HITS SECURITY IN FACE WITH HEADPHONES THEN FOLLOW US.” Rocky performs at SMASH that evening before being taken into custody by police after the show.

July 3: A$AP Rocky is arrested and the news spreads

TMZ reports that “the rapper voluntarily went to the police Tuesday night for questioning and was immediately taken into custody.” International media starts reporting on the arrest.

Rocky’s detention is scheduled to end on July 19, meaning that as well as missing performances in the UK and Poland, fans in Russia, Germany, Belgium, Ukraine, Italy, and Spain will also miss his scheduled shows.
