It’s Friday, which means you’ve likely spent the past four days or so getting caught up in the unfortunately par-for-the-course stresses of everyday life. If you’re looking for a quick sonic reset to remind you that when it comes down to it, nothing really matters, all you need is two minutes and 18 seconds with Tony Njoku‘s new single “HAPLESS.”
Opening with clattering percussion and his own stunning voice, Njoku offers self-observation on dealing with difficult moments in life, opening up to ascending synth lines and pleasantly spastic beats.
“Through a dark episode of rumination comes the humour, Njoku explains of the follow-up to his 2018 sophomore album H.P.A.C. via email. “When you’ve faced the cold hard truth and gone through the self-humiliating process of coming to terms with the source of your pain. You find out you put yourself in that ‘sticky situation’ and that you kept yourself in it all along. So rather than beat yourself up about it, you laugh. Laugh at your insecurities and your naivety.”
While the latest song from the Nigerian-British artist is officially dropping June 11 on Silent Kid Records, Highsnobiety has an exclusive first listen for you. Stream it below, then pre-save it here.
