Although Uber is currently in the news for being one of 97 companies who oppose President Trump's immigration reform, the ride share juggernaut is also making waves with the announcement that they have hired NASA engineer, Mark Moore, to spearhead their endeavor to make short-haul urban flights and "on-demand aviation" a reality.

Buoyed by a paper he published in 2010 which outlined the feasibility of electric aircrafts that could take off and land like helicopters - but were smaller and quieter and dubbed called VTOL (short for vertical takeoff and landing) - Moore will spearhead the Uber Elevate team.

"I can’t think of another company in a stronger position to be the leader for this new ecosystem and make the urban electric VTOL market real,” Moore says.

While there is little indication as to when or how they will put Uber Elevate into action, the company is reportedly flush with a $11 billion USD war chest for developing the company in a number of different ways.
