The lives and subsequent deaths of rap luminaries Tupac Shakur and The Notorious B.I.G. continue to be fertile ground for storytellers on television – as evidenced by the latest documentary by A&E on the Brooklyn emcee.

Trading that format for a true crime anthology similar to FX’s The People v. O. J. Simpson, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G chronicles the dual police investigations which looked into their controversial murders.

Josh Duhamel stars as Detective Greg Kading (the former LAPD Detective from the 2006 investigation into the murders), Jimmi Simpson as Detective Russell Poole and Bokeem Woodbine as Officer Daryn Dupree – while relative newcomers, Marcc Rose and Wavyy Jones, respectively take on the roles of Tupac and Biggie.

Although no official release date has been set yet, the series is expected to premiere in the winter.
