Tracking all of those holiday shipments can no doubt be stressful, but the US Postal Service is looking to alleviate some of that anxiety, all while providing you with a dose of holiday cheer. This year, USPS is testing out a new Christmas ornament that updates you with tracking information.
Dubbed "The Most Wonderful Ornament," the decoration changes color to notate differing tracking statuses. When the ornament is blue, it means that your package is out for delivery. Notice it turning red? Then the item has been delivered. And finally, when the ornament is green, this informs you that the package has been opened.
All of this is possible thanks to the utilization of cellular technology and a sensor that determines when the box is open. The ornament is then equipped with the existing tracking system that gathers information and turns the appropriate color.
Such festive technology of course allows you to abandon checking your phone every day or so just to find out the status of your package.
For now, USPS is merely testing The Most Wonderful Ornament, but if all goes according to plan, they will then tweak the system and roll it out in the future.
