Hiroki Nakamura's visvim label has unveiled its fall '17 ready-to-wear collection, featuring a revival of ancient Japanese artisanal techniques across a wide range of pieces.
“I feel my job as a designer is to take old methods, enhance them, and bring them into the present as everyday clothes,” Nakamura, who riffed on Americana for visvim's previous collection, told Vogue.
Highlights include a kimono-like lacquered jacket (which was painstakingly worked until he was satisfied with the cracked texture) and a 10-month tanned leather jacket, of which only four will be made.
Elsewhere, you'll find vests, tees, shirts, trousers, and an assortment of different denim pieces. Nakamura has been collecting rare pieces of denim since he was 14 years old, and this longtime love affair with the material is shown in the drier, lighter washes he creates.
