Designer: Grace Wales Bonner

Location: London, UK

Season: Spring/Summer 2018

Key Pieces: The kick-flair trousers and the slim-fit cargo pants might be some of Bonner’s most distinctly wearable pieces to date, but the black leather calf suit is utterly majestic.

Editor’s Notes: Graces Wales Bonner, the designer who took home the highly-lauded LVMH Prize last year, proves her skill-soaked precision as a designer is as developed as her intellectual approach to thinking about fashion (and everything else).

While Bonner’s past collections have reveled in their embellished eccentricities, all in a mission to present an epoch of black masculinity while mining specific cultural practices, her latest collection heads in an outwardly minimal direction.

Bonner told Vogue’s Sarah Mower that she was inspired by literature this season, and the young designer even used an essay excerpt from cultural critic Hilton Als in her show notes to frame her new pared-back aesthetic direction.
