In the next installment in our series taking a look at some of the artists that took part in this year’s Brighton Tattoo Convention, we speak to Wendy Pham, a Berlin-based tattoo artist with a penchant for the illustrative and imaginative.

Born and raised in Australia, Wendy spent two years working with her friend and fellow tattoo artist Matthew Gordon before they decided to open a studio for themselves. The result became Taiko Gallery, an enormously popular hub for the tattoo community in Berlin.

Wendy describes her style as one that is difficult to put into words, but her customers are quick to point out the similarities to traditional Japanese design. It is an influence that she acknowledges; one that most likely came from the binges of 1980s cartoons that filled her childhood. “It’s not stuff from now,” she says in the video, “Whatever weird stuff comes out of my brain.”

From April 30-May 1, the Brighton Tattoo Convention took place in the iconic English seaside town and rounded up some of the best tattoo artists in the world.
