Ever wonder why your runway-ready face suddenly goes from hot to not when you stare into your front-facing smartphone camera? Apparently selfies can make your nose look bigger, which changes the way people see themselves and the decisions they make about their facial features.
Vox put together a short and very informative video on the science behind nose-enlarging selfies.
According to the video, which you can watch above, this warped sense of one’s facial features is driving people to get nose jobs. Apparently 55 percent of patients that got plastic surgery in 2017 told their surgeons they wanted to “look better in selfies.”
