In a bid to stop people being super-basic when it comes to password protection, SplashData has dropped a list of the 25 worst passwords used in 2018. The list, starting with "123456" and progressing to "welcome," "admin," "password1," and "pleasetakemymoneyandidentity" (we might have made that last one up), is part of the site's annual attempt to improve people's cyber-security the following year.

Some of this year's entries, however, come somewhat out of left field, with "sunshine" arriving at number eight, "princess" at 11, "monkey" at 18, and "charlie" at 21. You would assume these would be used less than more obvious passwords such as "qwerty123," but apparently not. Peep the list in its entirety below.

1. 123456 2. password 3. 123456789 4. 12345678 5. 12345 6. 111111 7. 1234567 8. sunshine 9. qwerty 10. iloveyou 11. princess 12. admin 13. welcome 14. 666666 15. abc123 16. football 17. 123123 18. monkey 19. 654321 20. !@#$%^& 21. charlie 22. aa123456 23. donald 24. password1 25. qwerty123
