Good news for budget tech enthusiasts, Xiaomi has announced the arrival of the Redmi 5 and the 5 Plus models, with prices starting at just $120. To put that price in perspective, without Apple care, even just getting your screen fixed will set you back more than this phone.
The cheapest model, the Redmi 5, features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 processor, a 5.7-inch 18:9 “HD+” LCD, and a 3300mAh battery. It also comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB storage, which can be upgraded to 3GB and 32GB storage for just $15 more.
The 5 Plus starts off at $150 and features a Snapdragon 625 processor, 5.99-inch 18:9 “Full HD+” screen, and a 4000mAh battery. The Plus comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage as standard, but for $30 you can get 4GB RAM and 64GB storage.
Both models come equipped with a 1.25-micron pixels camera, an 18:9 display, micro USB charging, a fingerprint sensor, and the all-important selfie light. You can cop the phone in blue, pink, black and gold.
The Redmi 5 and the 5 Plus will drop in China, December 12. A worldwide release hasn’t yet been announced, but fingers crossed it’s on the cards.
