In an audio recording obtained by Pitchfork, XXXTentacion admits to domestic violence and other abuse. In the secret recording, a 27 minute tape from 2016 which the publication secured from the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office, the late rapper discussed his ex-girlfriend, the alleged victim of much of his abuse.
“She fell through on every occasion until now,” he says in a one minute excerpt from the tape, which was recorded around the time of his arrest on October 8, 2016. “But I started fucking her up because she made one mistake. And from there, the whole cycle went down.”
“Now she’s scared. That girl is scared for her life. Which I understand. You seen me. You know what I do to people,” he continues. Elsewhere on the tape he says, “I will kill that bitch if she play with me.”
To recap, when XXXTentacion was shot and killed in June of this year, he was awaiting trial for a 2016 abuse case involving the ex-girlfriend he refers to in the tape. He was charged by the Miami-Dade County state attorney’s office with aggravated battery of a pregnant victim, domestic battery by strangulation, false imprisonment, and witness tampering. The alleged victim detailed all these accusations in a January 2017 deposition. XXXTentacion plead not guilty to these charges, maintaining his innocence up until his death.
On the tape, the late rapper also refers to a separate stabbing incident in Deerfield Beach, Florida that took place in January 2016. “All of them boys knew...I’m on [Miami] New Times for stabbing, how many people they put in the news? They said three, it was eight,” he states, taking credit for the unsolved crime.
