Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci is a bonafide hit-maker. His track "Key To The Streets," appropriately tore up the streets and "Everyday We Lit" was just as apt in title and another surefire heater. He's now teamed up with 22-year-old Compton artist Garren for an inspiring anthem forged out of his desire to make moves up through the music game. We've got the exclusive on the pair's new track, which you can listen to in full below.
Writing to us over email, Garren described the socioeconomic problems in his hometown as the driving force behind the song. "The track was made for the winners who stay having doubters... that don't want you to prosper," he wrote. "It's hard to do good in the hood because poverty stricken areas are filled with people who may try to stop you, simply because they can't see themselves in the position you're aiming for. That's why on the single cover, are the same projects where I grew up in Compton, I had to work my way up, and overcome the hardships that come with being someone who's doing something positive."
He also told us how the project came about, "The way Lucci and I connected was very organic. I was in Atlanta and we were in the same studio. We chopped it up and instantly clicked. We made the song that night off of pure vibes. No thinking or planning, just great vibes. We both come from nothing and turned that into something, so when that's real, you can feel it, respect it, and make dope music off of it."
