Not for the trypophobic, architects Zaha Hadid and Patrik Schumacher have designed a dining pavilion that is both open and encapsulating.

Shaped like a clam shell, the “Volu Pavilion” has a sleek, one-piece appearance. The 3.2-meter-tall structure is lined with irregularly-shaped cut-outs throughout. Adding a natural element to the mix, the gaps in the floor are filled with wooden boards. The result is a light design with an organic structure.

With a roof that tilts downward over diners, the space feels as contained as the gaps make it open. Being showcased at temporary design spaces, Volu was most recently installed at the Design Miami fair.
