Highsnobiety

September is closer than you think which means that head-scratching while standing in front of a mirror is imminent (and has possibly already begun). That is, of course, because it's time to start thinking about which outfit best conveys your post-summer break glow-up.

Whether or not you spend the rest of the school year in the same faded sweatpants and ketchup-stained T-shirt, the first week back is the time to break out the new pieces you got and start the year on the right foot.

We've picked out seven fits for seven very different settings, from those going back to school at a formal private institution all the way through to graduation. Providing outfit options for whatever the academic year might throw your way, we've picked out our dream back to school outfits.

Keep Scrolling For Our Back to School Outfits.

Art School

If you plan on spending the majority of your time in an art studio, then there are some practical considerations to be made. You'll need an outfit that is comfortable, still look good with some paint splatters (or, in the case of Maison Margiela's Replica sneakers, is already covered in paint splatters), and has enough carrying space for all your art supplies. I believe the outfit above ticks all of those checkboxes.

Boarding School

Boarding school is where the prep-style tree is watered, fed, and nurtured before fixing its roots in the adult's wardrobe. The outfit above toys with the conventions of preppy private school clothing (sweater vests, shirts, tailored shorts etc.) but makes sure to subvert them with distressing and Martine Rose's unconventional shirting.

Physical Education

There are two types of people when the time for a sports lesson comes around: those who love it and those who will make every excuse under the sun to get them out of it. Regardless of what camp you're in, a sports kit like the one above will make the whole experience more pleasurable. Scrap the smelly old running shoes and hand-me-down track jackets, we're playing dodgeball in adidas x Wales Bonner.

Homecoming

Homecoming queens spare no expense on their outfits. Whether you're a student or returning alumni, there's a lot of competition as everyone shows out in their Sunday best. Keeping to a formal dress code means there's a higher emphasis on accessories, and the Jean Paul Gaultier sunglasses, Dries van Noten neckwear, and Vague wristwatch do most of the heavy lifting here.

Pre School

Fashion is still obsessed with dressing adults like giant babies. There’s no single form to this youthful style — Acne Studios is making fluffy teddy bear bags, Marni's mohair beanie looks like something your Grandma knitted for you as a child, and Story MFG.'s making alien puppet graphics.

Graduation

Finishing on the day that ends it all, graduation is the time to say au revoir to school. While many of the outfits above have seen us be frivolous and playful, this time we've opted for a business-ready, smart-casual outfit — except for the snake print loafers, of course.
