School may be out but it always comes back with a vengeance. With that in mind, it’s probably best to start preparing for the inevitable and begin investing in some new kicks. Thankfully, Foot Locker have done the hard work for you, releasing their #DontGoUnnoticed campaign in a blaze of hard red and swarthy black to kick away the back to school (or college, or office) blues.
Spanning Nike, adidas, Jordan, Vans, PUMA and Converse, the sneaker store’s campaign collection encompasses both iconic staples and more modern silhouettes that have become contemporary classics in their own right: adidas’s LA Trainer Weave sits comfortably against the modern icon of the Roshe One.
Despite our initial predictions, since the release of Yeezy’s Red October early in 2014, the red sneaker trend continues apace. This hasn’t necessarily been a bad thing of course, particularly when confronted with the likes of the Nike Hyperfr3sh Infrared or the Air Max Tavas in red and white colorway and both exclusive to Foot Locker. Meanwhile Nike’s solid Air Max 90 Essential, or the more dusky hues of the Jordan Eclipse or PUMA’s R698 Woven Red shelve fire hydrant scarlet for something a little more understated. You won’t go unnoticed in any of them, but you just don’t have to shout about it.
Meanwhile, in the opposite corner, black continues to be the new black. Why exactly the triple black trend continues to be popular could be down to any number of reasons. The murdered-out look, where silhouettes and striking cuts continue to say more than a clever color combo or very visible label ever could, seems to appeal in an age where understatement is key. And it works with sneakers too – an all-black kick means you can appreciate the sneaker’s silhouette in all its tailored form. Foot Locker is banking on it continuing, selecting an array of sneakers to help you stay fresh when you’re refreshing your news feed, including the Nike Flystepper 2K3, the subtle Converse Camo Jacquard, and the Foot Locker exclusives: the adidas ZX Flux XENO and the Jordan Eclipse in black and grey colorway.
