Where the runway meets the street

Ahead of his third studio album, Starboy, dropping on November 25, it seems Abel Tesfaye aka The Weeknd just can’t escape the headlines. After first announcing a mammoth tour Stateside and in Europe, the singer then featured in a new PUMA campaign before revealing he had teamed up with H&M to front its Spring 2017 menswear line.

Keen to capitalize on his moment in the limelight, Tesfaye has taken a leaf out of the books of Kanye West and Justin Bieber by announcing a series of pop-up merchandise stores in partnership with Bravado – Universal Music’s merchandise company.

Partnering with Alchemist in Miami; ComplexCon in Long Beach, California; Opening Ceremony in New York and Los Angeles; and Selfridges, London, we were lucky enough to be invited along for a browse at the New York location.

Like West’s Saint Pablo getup, each store carries a selection of limited edition items with designs exclusive to that city. A T-shirt, long-sleeve, hoodie, bomber, denim jacket and hat are all featured.

Getting back to the music, The Weeknd has just shared the track “All That Money” with fellow XO artist Belly — a demo which went on to shape Beyonce’s Lemonade track “6-Inch.”
