Where the runway meets the street

It looks as though watch brand Seiko is bringing back the Seiko Chariot, seen in the iconic black-and-white Time portrait of Steve Jobs from 1984. The new model, Seiko Nano Universe, shares the same minimalist design with a few subtle modifications.

The ad shows him sitting on the floor with an early Apple Macintosh computer in his lap and a Seiko Chariot model watch on his wrist. The original watch that Steve Jobs wore in the ad was only 33mm wide. For the Seiko Nano Universe limited edition versions, Seiko is producing both a “true to 1984” 33mm-wide size along with a larger 37.5mm that, while still small, is a bit more suited to modern men’s watch designs.

It’s quite ironic that Jobs is seen wearing a watch in the ad as he was known for not being a watch-wearer. Not to mention if he were still alive, he’d most likely favor an Apple Watch.

The white-dial version, like the one worn by Jobs, will be limited to 1,982 pieces in each size to mark the year when these watches were initially released.

The price is $180 USD, and it will go on sale March 10, 2017 over at Seiko
