Apple is closing out the year with a bang by delivering its first-ever over-ear, noise-canceling headphones, called AirPods Max. At first glance, you'll notice that these aren't the AirPods you're accustomed to seeing. AirPods Max brings an over-ear design to the world's most popular headphones.

In addition to Active Noise Cancelation, Apple's new headphones offer Adaptive EQ, Transparency mode, spatial audio, and high-fidelity sound, all in a custom acoustic design with H1 chips and advanced software.

"With AirPods Max, we are bringing that magical AirPods experience to a stunning over-ear design with high-fidelity audio,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “The custom acoustic design, combined with powerful H1 chips, and advanced software enable AirPods Max to use computational audio to wirelessly deliver the ultimate personal listening experience.”

From a design standpoint, AirPods Max boasts a stainless steel headband for strength, flexibility, and comfort, while telescoping headband arms ensure a secure fit. The ear cups attached to the headband pivot and rotate individually, and each ear cushion is made with acoustically engineered memory foam that acts as an effective seal for immersive sound delivery. Lastly, the Digital Crown allows you to conveniently adjust volume, play or pause audio, skip tracks, answer or end phone calls, and activate Siri.

AirPods Max offers listeners up to 20 hours of high-fidelity audio, talk time, or movie playback with Active Noise Cancelation and spatial audio enabled. The headphones come with a Smart Case that initiates an ultra-low power state, helping to preserve battery charge when not in use.

You can pre-order Apple's AirPods Max beginning today for $549, ahead of the December 15 release date. The headphones come in five colors of space gray, silver, sky blue, green, and pink.
