If A$AP Rocky is known for anything, it’s his eye for what’s cool and — at times — avant garde outfits, which is why it comes as a surprise that the A$AP Mob frontman was captured wearing a pair of adidas Originals Sambas — about as basic a sneaker as it gets.

In the above photo (posted to A$AP Nast’s Instagram account) Rocky pairs a pair of white Sambas with plaid pants, a white graphic T-shirt, and Stüssy and CDG’s 40th anniversary varsity jacket. The jacket is the standout piece of the outfit, no doubt, but ironically it’s the Sambas that catch our eye because they’re so unassuming.

While Rocky has a penchant for luxury brands and out-there outfits, he’s also known to bring it back to basics every once in a while. The rapper has been seen in $40 Dickies or sub-$100 Vans sneakers on countless occasions, which is why it shouldn’t really be that surprising Rocky threw on a pair of Sambas.

The adidas Originals Samba is, after all, one of the brand’s most iconic silhouettes, transcending football, the sport it was created for, and becoming a staple on the streets. It is also reminiscent of the German Army Trainer (GAT), a style which has been adopted by several brands over the years — most notably Maison Margiela.

In addition to being an absolute classic with its roots firmly in style culture, the adidas Samba still sells for well under $100, making it an incredibly affordable option to add to your rotation.
