From an outsider’s perspective, you’d be forgiven for thinking that Elle Fanning dressed glamorously on the daily. Her myriad of Gucci moments and countless dazzling red carpet looks at Cannes would certainly suggest so, yet the 23-year-old American actress, in reality, is an extremely tasteful dresser.

In fact, forget everything you think you know about Fanning, because one flick through the archives — by which we mean Getty and her tagged images on IG — and you’ll see that the Maleficent star likes nothing more than a simple, well thought-out ensemble just like the rest of us, just better.

Case in point came on October 23, after Fanning was spotted in New York City wearing a voguish look that is not only exemplary of her simplistic sense of style, but one that’ll also see her name thrown into the quiet luxury ring.

Fanning’s outfit was simple: a beige knee-length trench coat (Loro Piana, perhaps?), a black roll-neck sweater (Brunello Cucinelli, perhaps?), straight-cut denim jeans (Khaite, perhaps?), and a pair of loafers (The Row, perhaps?).

Such is the nature of the quiet luxury beast with its lack of logos and indistinguishable styles the designers behind each piece are unknown, yet what is clear is that Fanning knows her onions when it comes to layers.

Of course, Fanning's show-stopping red carpet looks won't be going anywhere, such is the nature of being a Hollywood actor, but for those willing to dig a little deeper and observe her off-duty looks, it’s clear she has subtle dressing down to a tee, too.
