6 Things We Learned About Gucci Mane From His Zane Lowe Interview
Last night on Beats 1, Zane Lowe spoke to Gucci Mane about his excellent new album Droptopwop, which was produced entirely by Metro Boomin. Wizop revealed some fascinating facts about the album and his year out of jail, as well as unveiling his plans behind his upcoming wedding, autobiography and more. These are the 6 things we learned from the interview.
It's been the best year of his life
Gucci spoke to Zane about how happy he's been since he's been released from prison, “This has been the best year of my life," even sharing his latest album on the one year anniversary of his release. Speaking about the year just passed, he said “It has been a hell of an experience, you know. And I just feel like the best way for me to celebrate is to celebrate with my fans that supported me all while I was gone. The fans who supported me the whole year I been back.” We're happy for you Gucci, though perhaps not as happy as he was when he first discovered Game of Thrones, surely another highpoint of his happiness this year:
He recorded all 12 songs from Drop Top Wop in 2 days
Wop's always been known for his highly-productive work rate. He made his first album out of prison, Everybody Looking, in just six days - but he's now beaten his own record with he and Metro Boomin's Droptopwop. The illustrious Atlanta hip-hop duo churned out the album in just 48 hours! Gucci stays hungrier than ever.
The only reason there wasn't more songs is because Metro Boomin fell asleep
Gucci - in his usual Godfather of Atlanta hip-hop manner - spoke about how "proud" he was of Metro Boomin, "Metro used to always come by my studio. Like from when he was just still going to school. He was just like 18, 19 years old. But a lot of the times he would come to the studio and I would kick it with him but I would never rap on his beats. He'd be like ‘Gucci why you never rap on my beats?’ So to see what he's doing now... His beats, every time he pulls something up it makes me want to rap, it makes me want to record. The only reason we didn't do more was because Metro fell asleep." Wop stays woke.
The autobiography of Gucci Mane arrives September the 19th
We're eagerly anticipating the release of Gucci Mane's new autobiography, creatively titled The Autobiography of Gucci Mane. Speaking about the book, Gucci said, "It comes out on September 19th. I wrote the book while I was in prison so it’s like everything that happened up to the day I walked out of prison." It's set to be a brrr-illiant read.
It actually scares him to read his own book
Gucci's autobiography is set to be an intense read. So intense it even scares the usually unflinching Wizop - who has been through his fair share of strife. Speaking on the book, Gucci said, "A lot of stuff I was embarrassed and ashamed to communicate to the world. Like what was going on behind the scenes of what was going on in my mind at that time. So even when I read it now it scares me. It scares me to even read that book. I done read it two or three times and every time I read it it gives me goosebumps."
He's getting married on October 17
Congratulations to the Wopsters! Gucci revealed his wedding plans to Zane, that are - of course - occurring in October Woptober, "I have my wedding October the 17th, so I'm getting married. So that’s the dream come true. I couldn't wait to get out of prison and get married. We are trying to like throw the biggest wedding of the year. It’s like whatever my wife wants I want to give it to her and she wants a big wedding. I'm just glad I'm fortunate enough to make it happen for her. I feel like she deserves it. DJ Holiday [is going to DJ the wedding]."
