Last week Kendrick Lamar performed at a surprise pop-up concert in Brooklyn. Ahead of the show, he gave an interview to XXL Mag, wherein he waxed eloquently on his thoughts concerning President Obama and the legacy Obama has left behind in the wake of President-Elect Trump. Among his more choice comments, he insists that both "hip-hop and the world owes President Obama."

He continues, "We all have to give him his credit due for even allowing us into the building. We would probably never get inside that house ever again." Lamar is referring to the fruitful relationship Obama has had with the hip-hop community, which has seen artists like himself, Nicki Minaj and Rick Ross perform from the White House itself, a landmark unthinkable under the tenure of any other person to hold that office.

Obama, for his part, has frequently cited Lamar as one of his favorite artists. The two of them continue to feel the love, as Lamar went on in the interview that "you look at him as such a high figure in the world, but for him to embrace you and have a connection with you further than just being the President and make you feel like an actual friend."

Be sure to read Lamar's full interview over on XXL.
