MATCHESFASHION Innovators returns every year to champion the next generation of design talent. Each young Innovator is paired with an established designer for a series of exclusive conversations as they consider what it means to work in fashion today, exploring each other’s work and style along the way.

Stefan Cooke founded his eponymous label in 2017 with fellow Central Saint Martins grad Jake Burt. The two combine their skills to produce collections that blend inspirations taken from modern art and subculture while sticking to eco-conscious values. Guided by these values, you can expect the collections to feature upcycled elements for unorthodox takes on classic pieces.

For Fall/Winter 21, Stefan Cooke's footwear offering fits squarely into the subversive character of the label. From muled loafers through to unorthodox paneled Oxford shoes, each design feels familiar but features a defining twist.

Loafers really grabbed the attention of the menswear world this summer, but donning a pair of slip-ons doesn't feel so natural when it's raining or snowing out. Stefan Cooke's boot-version is the ideal compromise.

For those who refuse to give up on the slip-on lifestyle, though, these backless loafers should do the trick. Complete with a traditional penny loafer vamp, this pair is distinguished by a raised heel for a bolder silhouette.

Inspired by biker footwear, these black leather boots will see you through anything the weather might throw at you this season. High-end leather extends from the upper to the lining and insole as proof of the designers' attention to detail.

The difference between this pair and the previous selection is height. With a higher collar, they'll keep your feet warm and dry for longer. We're loving the rich brown leather, too.

You'll find this pair somewhere between biker and bondage. Three shining metal buckles fasten the immaculate design, punctuating the black leather silhouette.

Like the backless loafers, Stefan Cooke opts for an exaggerated heel to contemporize this classic Oxford Shoe. Curved panels offer another subversion while detailing the all-black design.
