Editors notes: Japanese sneaker label Mizuno has always been serious about its tech, with each model bringing new innovations to the fore, and the Wave Rider is no different. Released in 1998, the model introduced the world to its Wave technology that went on to revolutionize the sneaker market.

"This Wave technology was the opposite of what Nike Air was," Tuan Le, lead product designer for the original Wave Rider, previously told Highsnobiety. “Nike Air was a big air bag that cushioned the impact of running but the Wave Plate stretches out upon impact and propels the runner forward as it returns to its regular waved shape.”

It's the same technology that the brand still uses today, from its Wave Pophecy model's insane sole unit to its high-end running models. It's also used in the Wave Rider 10, an updated version of the original shoe that made it even faster.

Back when it was first released, the Wave Rider 10 was the label's latest state-of-the-art running shoe, upgrading the original tech through a compound of shock absorbers for better transition of movement.

But, since the shoe first hit the market, it has made way for newer running models from Mizuno and found fans amongst sneakerheads as a classic silhouette.

Taking inspiration from the label's history in cutting-edge sportswear, we have produced our own version of the Wave Rider 10. Using its expertise in high-speed runners, the casual sneaker provides all-day comfort alongside our design twists.

It is created together with Hikmet Sugoer, an OG in Berlin's sneaker community that has been a friend of the brand for many years and who owns the sneaker label Sonra.

Influenced by the way light and white balance can influence how we see a product, the sneaker's upper uses a mixture of translucent ripstop panels with suede to create an off-white backdrop for red and blue detailing. Elsewhere detailing on the tongue, heel tabs, and sole unit provides a colorful pop of color.

The end result adds a minimalist design to the sporty sneaker while also getting experimental with textures and fabrics.

The shoe will be exclusively available to buy from the Highsnobiety Shop starting December 2 before a wider release the following week. Just make sure your sock game is on point before our new sneaker puts it in the limelight.
