The year-and-a-half hiatus between season two and season three of Rick and Morty is remembered with a shudder for the show's often impatient fans, however, that wait could be nothing compared to when season four will drop.

In an interview with The Detroit Cast radio station, Rick and Morty writer Ryan Ridley warned that we shouldn't expect any new episodes to arrive this year. According to Ridley, no one has even begun working on the fourth season yet. "I know how long this show takes to write, let alone animate," he explained. "I'd be surprised if there was a fourth season on the air anytime sooner than 2019... late 2019."

"They really take their time," he said. "I never understood why everybody—all parties, Dan, Justin, and Adult Swim—didn’t get their shit together, and make the show fast," he continued. "I just don't get it. It doesn’t make any sense to me. I'm sure they all have their reasons."

On the upside, Deadmau5 premiered an exclusive Rick and Morty New Year's Eve clip (starting around the 3-minute mark), so hardcore fans can just keep replaying it all year.
