Wacko Maria

It's May aka it's that time of the year where we're all quietly plotting our summer fits. You probably don't need convincing that short-sleeved shirts are the quintessential summer garm. The only question here is does a cult horror movie really scream summer vibes?

According to Wacko Maria, the answer is: yes.

The Japanese streetwear brand has a knack for tapping into the world of classic film and for SS21 it did precisely that with Jonathan Demme's 1991 psycho-thriller The Silence of the Lambs. Dropping today is a collection of Hawaiian shirts memorializing the iconic film's most notable – and scary – character: Hannibal Lecter.

Across five shirts, in varying color combinations, Wacko Maria captures Anthony Hopkins as the serial killer in particularly chilling stills from the film. Our favorite is a black shirt with Lecter and his prison bars cast in pink, as he threateningly wields a baton. It's kind of left-field to subvert what is usually a cheerful summer staple into the horror canon... but it works?

The shirts are striking in their shock value, as they depict one of film history's most visceral characters – but who wouldn't want people to do a double-take when they've dropped ¥38,500 (approximately $352) on a shirt? So, you really can't go wrong.

You can shop the Wacko Maria x Silence of the Lambs capsule from today via Wacko Maria's online shop.

And if you're hesitant about what to combine a Hannibal Lecter shirt with, we've got you covered with a steezy selection of shorts here.
