When it comes to stocking artisanal homegrown labels, the guys at Manchester and London's Oi Polloi never disappoint. The latest one to add to their roster: the tightly woven, super tough, 100% cotton and 100% British Grenfell cloth, now being stocked as part of Grenfell’s signature Golf Jackets.
Grenfell has a storied past. Worn by seemingly every British adventurer the island nation produced last century, the luxury clothing line has appeared on the shoulders of land speed record holders Malcolm and Donald Campbell, Mr F S Smythe as he built the "highest habitation" man has ever built on Earth at Everest's Camp VI in 1936, as well as Britain’s preeminent adventurer, wildlife photographer and all-round legend, Sir David Attenborough.
Founded in the 1920s and quickly adopted by sportsmen and adventurers, Grenfell cloth was also used to clothe Britain’s Spitfire fighter pilots during WWII. However, it was through the world of golf that Grenfell established a name for itself, with the Grenfell Golfer Jacket introduced in 1931 and worn by Sir Henry Cotton, three-time winner of the British Open and captain of the 1947 Ryder Cup team.
Given all that, the guys at Oi Polloi thought it appropriate to take the Grenfell Golf jacket out for a swing with some crazy golf. Check out the guy's grand day out with a selection of Oi Polloi’s exclusive shots, above, or read their interview with Grenfell’s designer Joslyn Clarke at their blog.
The Grenfell Golf Jacket is exclusively now in store at Oi Polloi and online.
