Should you find yourself perusing any list of the greatest horror films of the new millennium, you are guaranteed to find The Ring somewhere on it. Despite being a remake of the Japanese Ringu, the 2002 chiller starring Naomi Watts proved to be a cultural phenomenon, instilling a mortal fear in the already extinct VHS tape and forever ruining the image of both wells and girls with long dark hair covering their face. It was followed by an incredibly disappointing sequel, and that seemed like the end of that. Until now, as both the saga of The Ring and the iconic ghoul Samara now live on in Rings.

Picking up exactly 13 years after the events of the first film, Rings follows a woman and her boyfriend who find and (duh, watch) the fateful video tape, giving them exactly seven days to get their shit together before you-know-what comes to get them. But this observant couple unravels the mystery even further, picking up on a film within the film contained on the tape.

As the first trailer shows, things spiral out of control in a very intense, body-horror way, the likes of which haven’t been seen before. And how these spirits can follow them on an airplane is an answer almost too terrifying to comprehend.

Rings hits theaters right on Halloween weekend on October 28. Which means you have well over seven days to prepare yourself.
