Bridgestone has this week announced a next-generation bicycle tire that does not need to be inflated with air. The “Air Free Concept” means no air is necessary to support weight, making use of a unique structure of spokes stretching along the inner sides of tires, while the resins that are used in the spokes and rubbers in turn help realize more efficient use of resources.

Spearheaded by Bridgestone Corporation and Bridgestone Cycle, the concept allows for the development of bicycle tires without punctures, as they are also adapting this technology to be used in various other types of tires.
