There's a new king of the box office after it was announced today that Mark Wahlberg had dethroned The Rock as the highest-paid actor in Hollywood.
Wahlberg raked in a whopping $68 million USD this calendar year alone, while The Rock still managed to grab second place with $65 million. Rounding out the top five were Vin Diesel ($54.5 million), Adam Sandler ($50.5 million) and Jackie Chan ($49 million).
According to Forbes, the world's 20 highest-paid actors tallied a combined $720 million USD between June 1, 2016, and June 1, 2017 — aided by blockbuster films, expanded Marvel universes, and the popularity of Bollywood cinema.
Perhaps what's most notable is the fact that in comparison, the highest paid actresses, Emma Stone and Jennifer Anniston, each respectively made $26 and $25.5 million USD which illustrates the ongoing wage gap between the sexes.
