John Coltrane is a giant in the history of American music. He was a pioneer in developing a new sound in Jazz music with the use of modes and improvisation, and later was at the forefront of the Free Jazz movement. As a leader Coltrane was astonishingly prolific and recorded almost fifty albums. He also co-collaborated on, and strongly influenced, many other recordings with the legends of his time including Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk. As his life and career progressed, Coltrane’s music took on an increasingly spiritual dimension, which became integral to his sound. Coltrane has influenced innumerable musicians, and remains one of the most significant tenor saxophonists in Jazz history.
For the coming season Supreme, along with the John Coltrane foundation is proud to present a group of T-shirts honoring this great American icon. The t-shirts will be released on October 22nd in store as well as online and the Japanese stores will get them on October 24th.
Detailed images of the three t-shirts that come as part of the Supreme x John Coltrane series follow after the jump.

Its a shame that a lot of guys will buy this T because its has Supreme written on it. If you don’ t know the music, how the hell could you walk around with a picture of John on it?
Why would you assume that people do not know the music?
You think this has anything to do with “A Love Supreme?” If it doesn’t which is unlikely, then that is a totally weird coincidence and one that Supreme should capitalize on.
i dont wear supreme but the white shirt with the four pics of John Coltrane on it looks nice and i dont even know who he is.
@ admin: I can name a couple of reasons, for instance; Coltrane’s music has been released pretty much way before the average Supreme buyer was born. Besides the reasons why I think -a lot of guys- wont know his music, was my whole point to let people realize not just buy stuff because of the name of the brand, but because you like it. That doesn’t mean I dont like Supreme, I do so, but I’m getting tired of guys buying stuff only because of the brand.
whats on the back?
i like this bundle as much as the miles
Coltrane is hardly some esoteric figure. He’s even name dropped by Lisa Simpson quite frequently. People of this generation will probably get who he is before they ever grasped the reference from “Bo Knows” stuff. Never really felt any of these type of ‘preme shirt though.
I know you guys deleted my boy Matt’s post. The truth of the matter is:
In my boredom during class one day i doodled and thought it would be cool if Supreme made a shirt with the cover from Trane’s ‘A Love Supreme’ so i shot the idea to Matt and he did this…

giggly and excited he sent Supreme an email asking for two shirts one for him and I. 2 months later they released …an uglier version and never responded to us ever… in conclusion F*** Supreme and every stupid hypebeast who buys this shirt.
(waiting to be deleted by admin cause they suck the man’s dick)
We have no idea what went down here, but just to clarify, your friend Matt, posted 3 times on a single post, so we deleted one of them, the other two are still there, have a good look before you insult us.
lol be easy mike.
Sorry Highsnobiety, i really didn’t mean to post a million times, apologies.
In regards to the situation, I’m over it. I mean it probably happens all the time, but I just feel sorry for Supreme’s creative team (if they even have one).
If their contact form on supremenewyork.com is a significant source of creative energy for the brand, it makes you question their legitimacy moving forward in fashion vs. just sale by hype.
Also, we could totally be wrong here and it could be pure coincidence that they went and did a Coltrane collab a month after I emailed them.
Whatever the case, they didn’t really bite the tee in terms of design, and creative property online nowadays is extinct.
We wanted a Coltrane collab, and we got one, we’ll quit bitching lol
Peace!
